Legionella Control for Industry

Effective legionella control in the industrial sector is particularly challenging as in addition to the operation of domestic water systems the risk assessment and control scheme needs to take into account any industrial process using water that has potential for legionella risk.

All industrial premises employing 5 people or more are required to have a written scheme and legionella assessment to comply with the requirements of:

  • ACoP L8 and the associated guidance set out in HSG274 Parts 2 and 3 and HSG274 Part 1 if there are cooling towers

The legionella risk posed by industrial effluent treatment, water washes, particle scrubbers, paint spray booths and cutting tool coolants (to name but a few) require specialist knowledge and expertise for effective legionella control.

Technical guidance requires that a risk assessment is carried out for each system by an assessment team comprising members knowledgeable in legionella control as well as those familiar with the design and operation of the system.

Watertec has the experience and expertise to work effectively alongside client health and safety and engineering teams to develop and implement effective industrial legionella control strategies.
